New Covers for Old Favorites
I’m hard at work on my new book, and you’ll be hearing more about that soon, but in the meantime, I have some news about two of my favorite older books. Mr. Darcy’s Noble Connections and The Darcys of Derbyshire have new covers! I was never completely happy with the old ones which I designed myself, and they clashed with my other covers, so I turned to my talented cover designer, Jane Dixon-Smith, and asked her to make them right. As usual, she did a brilliant job, and made them true to the stories as well.
Here’s Mr. Darcy’s Noble Connections, which takes place while Elizabeth is visiting an aristocratic childhood friend in Yorkshire, only to discover Darcy is staying at a neighboring estate. The new cover shows a key scene where Elizabeth wanders in search of Darcy at a ruined abbey on the grounds of the fictional Bentham Park. I first conceived of the scene while walking the grounds of Fountains Abbey, but we borrowed the background picture from Rievaulx Abbey, also in Yorkshire, for the cover. I think it’s perfect! Want to know more about the book? You can read the first chapter here.
In The Darcys of Derbyshire, Elizabeth travels to Derbyshire with the Gardiners as usual, but instead of encountering Darcy at Pemberley, she runs into him at the Black Rocks, a gritstone outcropping in Derbyshire, from the top of which you can see a beautiful view of the countryside. As he walks her to the top of the rocks, he tells her the romantic story of his parents’s courtship, how father refused to give up when Lady Anne Darcy said she could not marry him, and how they finally came together atop the Black Rocks. Naturally, this leads to a new understanding, great banter, and some amazing kisses. Want more? The first chapter’s here.
If you own a Kindle ebook of either book and would like the new cover, you can download the updated version for free in the ‘Your Content and Devices’ section at Amazon.
There’s a third semi-kinda-new cover coming soon, but you probably won’t notice the difference. Since so many people said they disliked the models on the cover of Conceit & Concealment, I decided to swap out for a new model while I was making changes. The new cover isn’t available yet, but here’s what it’ll look like.
I know you’d rather have a new book than new covers, but I hope these will entertain you a bit while I finish torturing Darcy in my new, angsty variation. 🙂
The new covers are really lovely. I have a strong desire to reread them now. Maybe the new covers will bring some new readers of JAFF who haven’t read your back list yet.
Thanks, Michelle. I’m hoping it helps some new people notice the books. 🙂
These new covers are lovely!!. (i esp love Darcy’s Noble Connections).
I have bought these books before. those old covers are lovely too. But I see now why you would want to change them.
Awaiting the release of Your upcoming book
Thanks! I liked the artwork for the old covers, but they didn’t do a good job of communicating to potential readers what the books were like. I hope these will do better. The new book is on its way!
Love the new covers Abigail, especially Mr. Darcy’s Noble Connections. I don’t know if you remember, but Fountains is only 20 minutes drive from where I live and we’ve been there many times. I always think of you and that particular work when I’m there! I don’t know Rievaulx as well as it’s quite a lot further away but it’s well worth visiting when in the area.
Good luck with the work on the new book!
Thanks, Anji! That’s so cool that you live near Fountains and that it reminds you of the book. I haven’t been to Rievaulx, though it’s now on my list if I get back to the UK.
